The most difficult part of removing and replacing diesel motor mounts is getting to and removing the 2 small 6 mm head allen bolts that hold the mounts to the cross member. Without the right length custom allens you can end up spitting nails!
We ended up making our own special tools in our shop. They have proven to work so well that I have decided to offer them to our customers who are anticipating motor mount replacement.
The key tool is a reversible low profile and short ratchet wrench that can hold a 6 mm allen. This tool is not for heavy torque but once you get the allen loose it will give you very quick removal. A correct length ball socket allen is included for this purpose. The ball socket will allow you to tilt the wrench and still rotate the bolt. The short 90 degree allen is for the purpose of loosening and final torque. You can get a short pipe or vise grip on the end to give you the necessary leverage. Space is very limited when working around the motor mounts with the engine installed in the car. As an added bonus you will receive a little set of screw driver tips that can also be used in the wrench.
This kit will work on all 115, 116, 123 and 126 diesels from 1968 to 1985. It will also work on a number of gas models from the late 60's to early 80's.
PLEASE NOTE: This tool does not come with instructions. Motor mount replacement instructions are included in both or non-turbo and turbo motor mount kits.
