Good Morning all,
1983 300CD. This is a new purchase and the TACH and Clock are not working. I purchased the "HOW TO" from you concerning the removal and replacement of the dash and related gauges. First, there is 12 volts to the clock so I have to assume the clock itself is bad. I can live without that ; however, the connection going to the tack show 8.3 volts. My question, is that the correct voltage? It does not change with engine RPMs. Additionally, I am unable to find the Amplifier on the L/inner fenderwell. I wanted to check it but I am unable to locate it ANYWHERE.
The dash has been out before because a ground wire has been installed like the manual states.

The connection for the
The connection for the amplifier is located on the top of the driver side wheel well in the engine compartment. It has a round cap that screws on that pushes the pins of the connection into the plug. The rubber gasket that keeps this connection water tight is too hard and will not let you screw that down enough. You can check this simply by removing the gasket and screwing the cap back down.

try replacing the fuse. I have a 1985 300TD and the clock and tach did not work, but the interior lights did. While replacing the ignition, removed the fuse and replaced it with a new similarly rated fuse. Now the clock and the tach both work.
