the engine blocks would be primarily the same but the chain housings differ from the wagons because the wagons use the timing chain idler gear to drive the suspension pump, hence my use of a 83td engine in the 85sd dune buggy :) i personally like the hydro suspension but i think they sell a suspension kit to do away with the hydro here on mercedes source
Hi John, if considering a 1979 300SD (engine besides the cylinder head) you would have to change the tranmission bell-housing and the motor mount arms. The vacuum pump connections, valve cover linkage, and air cleaner inlet are also different. Kent
