Air Conditioner Noise from engine compartment
I just had the A/C recharged, compressor switch replaced (wasn't there to begin with), and the valve replaced under the glove box. It's blowing cold air and working great... except: just as I start the A/C up, it sometimes makes a frightening scraping sound from the engine. Is that the compressor, or is there a clutch that's malfunctioning?

Check clutch first
If the noise comes and goes it is most often the clutch. Remove the V-belt to check for loose bearings or roughness.
