The previous owner put a junkyard ignition lock and lost his original keys so I cannot lock my doors or the trunk. I cannot find out from my shop manual how to remove the lock cylinders. Is there another solution to my dilemma? My car is a 1985 300TD.

I recently had to do this to my '84 500SEL because the lock on the driver's side could not be opened with the key. On the 126 chassis car you have to remove the door handle to be able to get the lock tumbler out. This means taking of the door inner panel. I suspect the procedure is similar on the 123 chassis. I took the door handle to a locksmith and they were able to repair the tumbler so I can unlock the driver's door with my key now. It is not easy to remove the lock tumbler from the handle either as there is at least one rollpin and a set screw to remove.

thanks
