One of the more challenging aspects of adjusting the release pressures on your diesel fuel injectors is finding the exact thickness shim washer you need to make the proper spring pressure adjustment. If you try to do it with just one shim per injector you end up needing a large assortment of all sizes of shims ranging from 0,80 mm to 1,95 mm. And knowing Murphy’s law all too well, you will end up needing the shim size that you do not have.
Kent has solved this problem with the release of his DIY Variable Shim Washer Kit. Geared specifically for the home mechanic who only occasionally needs to adjust injector pressures. Rather than having 70 to 100 different shims on hand you now only need 30 shims total to meet the variable requirements of adjusting two to three sets of 5 injectors.
The key is using more than one shim to meet the total thickness requirement. Buy using a thicker shim along with 1 to 3 thin shims you will be able to make any thickness you need. This kit contains three each of four different thick shims that are 0,30 to 0,35 mm apart from each other. Along with these 12 thick shims there are 6 each of super thin 0.05. 0.10 and 0.20 shim washers. 30 shim washers TOTAL included.
If you are adjusting your injectors and your pressure reading is low you may only have to add one or two of the thin washers to bring the pressure up to spec. If your pressure reading is too high you will need to go down in thickness by choosing one of the thicker shims in this kit and adding 1 or 2 thin ones to build the thickness required.
