I Just Bought this Diesel that Needs Help - Where do I start?

The question seems to be popping up frequently now as many people are buying these old diesels for the first time hoping to convert them to run on alternative fuel. It is a great idea and can be a rewarding endevour IF you find the right car to begin with and are willing and able to repair it yourself.

More often that not the car has been purchased before the person finds our website and realizes the number of resources we offer to evaluate, repair and maintain a Mercedes diesel. We hear of numerous reports of -I picked it up for cheap- I wish I would have read your Diesel Buyer's Guide before I bought it - it started ok when I got it but now it won't start on cold mornings - I think maybe I made a mistake, etc..
