300D Viton injector return lines popping off!

Submitted by christopherthibodeau on 22 June 2008 - 7:51pm.
Hi there. I recently installed new Viton injector return lines. I have driven at least 500 miles on about 70% veggie. And then all of a sudden today, after filling up on all veggie, the Viton lines started popping off. My wife was driving the car so it was a real mess. She would put them back on and the would pop off again. We dumped 3/4 of a tank during her short trip. There are two lines that kept coming off. Thankfully i kept my braided return lines and they are fairly new. Has anyone else had this problem? What is the cause? And is there a solution? Thanks, christopher

Possible reasons

Hi Christopher, I have used the viton on a number of diesels. The only two reasons I have come across for it popping off are split ends or pressure building up in the return lines. (there sould be very little pressure).

  • Return value when running on WVO not working or set properly (if it gets blocked the lines will come off due to excess pressure buildup
  • SVO fuel too thick (not heating up adequately)
  • Injection pump relief valve not working properly

To troubleshoot start by setting your return valve to return to tank to see what happens. Then mix in some diesel to thin fuel to see what happens

Thanks for the advice. It

Thanks for the advice. It turned out that i had the manual valve in the wrong position. Hopefully that will be a lesson learned and that will NOT happen again!

Viton Injector Lines

I had put the new Viton Injector Return Lines on My 300D and they popped off when I took a several hour trip. Dropped approx. 1/2 tank when return lines kept popping off (I had to get out of the car many times in attempt to keep the lines on the injector return line nipples. I put new braided (old style) retrun lines on the car and that fixed the problem. I was thus unhappy with the New Viton Injector Lines which seem thin and prone to not holding onto the injector nipple.
