LOCTITE brand All Engines Non-Hardening Gasket Sealant --- NO SILICONE! AUGUST PROMO

Down with Silicone

NEW LOCTITE PRODUCT - AUGUST PROMO! If you have read very many of my manuals and instructions you already know how much I detest Silicone Gasket Sealant. I know there are places for silicone (ie bath tub caulking, etc), but it should not be used on internal combustion engines!

I have see too many problems inside engines that lead me to believe this stuff should be outlawed. The problem is that most mechanics put on too thick a bead and it rolls out on the inside of the gasket or sealing surface. Then over time that bead falls off like spagetti and works it way through your engine to critical oil and coolant passages. I have see it cause catastrophic failure of engine bearings and camshaft bearings. It can also cause climate control valve failure as well as restricted coolant flow leading to engine overheating.

For years I have been a fan of Aviation type permatex gasket sealant. It remains pliable, will seal both old and new gaskets, and won't peel off into your engine (unless of course you put huge gobs of it on the gasket!) Now Loctite produces the identical product and we can offer it to our customers. Keep one of these in your tool box and use it on all gaskets and outside edge of engine seals.
