84 300D fuel tank strainer removal?

i have a 1984 300d turbo sedan . i have run into a problem trying to change the fuel tank strainer. the hose from the strainer removed easly. but i am not able to budge the strainer from the tank. the car is up on jack stands and im trying to remove it from under the car. any suggestion on how to get a stuck strainer out.
