1983 300sd Transmission will not downshift
Husband did a valve adjustment a week ago and the car idles really nice. Problem? Now, we have very little power, slow acceleration and the transmission will not downshift even with pedal pressed to the floor whether driving on flat street or going uphill. Help!!!

check the linkages
check the linkages for the Bowden cable to the trans and throttle linkage to the injection pump. Both are connected on top of the valve cover and sometimes can get out of adjustment or disconnected when the cover is off to do the valves. This could cause the symptoms you describe. Good luck!

Theres a small plastic clip
Theres a small plastic clip that breaks that holds cable in place.I tied mine with wire.The cable also will wear,and you can replace.Also electric switch under pedal can become worn.
