The glow plugs on my 1974 240D won't turn on unless the pull switch is pulled all the way out and the starter is running. I've been putting it in Drive to keep the starter from running until it's warm, then into Neutral to engage the starter. I don't think the glow plug light is working either. Is the switch itself at fault? Relay? How difficult and expensive is this to fix? Thanks, Neil
I recommend a fast glow plug upgrade
Just my humble opinion, but unless you are in love with the original pull starter, I would suggest you upgrade your system to fast pencil style plugs wiring in parallel with a dash button activated solenoid. I have put together a kit to help you make this upgrade.
