1983 123 fuel tank cleaning

I am changing my diesel fuel tank out with a clean one I found,but would like to try to clean out my old funked out tank,and I wonder if there is something I can soak or wash out my tank with to reuse it in another car.....acetone?....laquer thinner...???....Hapt....thanks for any advice...
