Mercedes Universal IDI Bosch Diesel Fuel Injector Tuning Kit

For MBZ, VW, Volvo, Toyota, Datsun, Others - Free Cleaning Tools and Lapping Supplies Included

This unique kit will allow you to clean, tune up, or rebuild your Bosch IDI diesel fuel injectors on your own and save you big $$$! IDI (indirect injection) Bosch fuel injectors were installed on many diesel vehicles from the 1960's up to the mid 1990's. This would include Mercedes, VW Volkswagen, Volvo, Toyota, Datsun, and others. The injector housings may vary some as well as the design of the nozzle spray pattern and release pressures, but the service and adjustment procedures are the same (except for VW AAZ dual-stage injectors). The connector thread fitting is also the same almost all of these type injectors which makes it an easy bolt-up to the pressure tester included.

This kit includes the following:

  • Bench mounted hand operated injector release and balance tester to 3000 psi
  • 24 piece shim washer assortment that allows you to precisely adjust the injector release "pop" pressure
  • Special brass tools to help clean the carbon of the tips of your injectors
  • Pick tool to aid in removal of injector heat shield washers
  • Assortment of medium to super fine lapping paper to prevent injector fluid leaks
  • Nitrile gloves to save your hands
  • Bolts and nuts to mount tester to work bench
  • Complete step by step illustrated instruction manual.

This kit is intended to clean, service, and balance tune your existing diesel fuel injectors.  If your injectors are high mileage or exhibit poor spray patterns the nozzle tips and holders will need to be replaced. No injector replacement nozzles are included in this kit. These are available for Mercedes elsewhere in our online store.

If you don't think cleaning and tuning your injectors is important think again. Dirty injectors can cause poor spray patterns leading to loss of power, poor fuel economy and excess exhaust smoke. Unbalanced injectors (meaning release pressures are not set within 50 psi of each other) can lead to rough idle, poor acceleration, and excessive injector knock. Worn out injector tips can lead to all of the above plus lots of $$ going out your exhaust pipe. With diesel fuel at $5.00 a gallon you could pay for this tester in a month!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Contrary to popular belief this is an important service procedure you can do at home. You will actually be surprised at how simple it is with the right tools. Even though it is not difficult, it can be time consuming to get the pressures of all your injectors balanced just right and that is one of the reasons diesel shops charge so much money to do it. Here is a quick summary of the procedure:

The testing procedure is quite simple:

  • Bolt the tester to your work bench
  • Fill the tester reservoir with diesel fuel
  • Use face respirator - test outside or below exhaust fan at window to vent fumes
  • Attach a fuel injector to the hard line fitting included
  • Bleed the air out at the injector fitting
  • Pump the handle a few times up to the point the injector fires (pops)
  • Note the consistency of the spray pattern
  • Read the release pressure in PSI
  • Hold pressure with handle just before release point and check for injector leaks
  • Disassemble the injector to inspect / clean
  • Select thicker or thinner shim washer to change pressure
  • Measure shims with dial caliper to confirm correct size
  • Clean, oil, and reassemble injector to proper torque
  • Repeat test and re-adjust pressure if needed
  • Replace with new nozzles if yours fail the test
  • Install back into your engine using new crush washers and injector return hose

PLEASE NOTE: This kit will NOT work on TDI fuel injectors.

NOW AVAILABLE - MARCH 2010 - Gasoline Injector Pressure Tester Conversion!!!

If you own an older gasoline Mercedes you can use this basic tester to test your CIS fuel Injectors. BUT ...... you will need a conversion kit with a smaller gauge. CLICK HERE to view our new Diesel to Gasoline Tester Conversion kit
