Does kents svo system provide enough heat

Submitted by rosenfe on 11 January 2010 - 11:14am.

with so much focus on providing adequate heat to svo pre ip on the other forums, how do we know your system is enough.im speaking of moderate outside temps never below 38.you stress its a personal decision based on our own tipping point of concerns about engine longevity, but that still doesnt answer the question as to why the predominate statements say your system doesnt give enough heat.im talking about fm100.i like the simplicity of your system, but is it too simple.how many years have you run yours and then eval shape of engine with a teardown or inspection.?im asking not to criticize but to feel encouraged keep on with the glow plug chamber heat.

Kents system enough heat?

i live in PA. it has been 15-20 degrees F for the last two weeks. i have all of kens heaters-rear sump with electic and copper coolant coil, coolant heated fuel line, as well as the final electric boster with a copper coolant coil around the fm100. My 300sdl was driving well, but i was worried about the 95 degree temps that i was getting at my fuel injectors with my laser thermometer. i added a 100w hard line fuel injector heater (not one of Kens item) and i get 160-180 degree temps within 2 minutes of starting my car in 17 degree weather.

oh, by the way, it starts right up at 17 degrees after allowing the heaters to heat for about 2 minutes and cycling the normal glow plugs 2-3 times. I think the beauty of this system is that the tank isnt getting heated when it isnt needed and its simplicity. the coolant based system takes a while to really provide any heat to the new fuel line. It seems to only work well when going 55+mph, but not as well prior to that.
