1983 300D -how to drive with gauges removed?

Submitted by emeraldstkid on 11 March 2010 - 10:44am.

I have a suggestion for a part that I would buy. When having the instrument cluster serviced the oil pressure guage must be dissconnected. While it is disconected the car cannot be started or oil will pump uncontroled into the car. Were the fittings standard pipe thread fittings it would be easy to buy a cap to seal the oil line and drive the car if needed. Metric parts are much harder to find. If you supplied this cap I am sure that there would be people interested since all of the older Mercedes models had a live oil line going to the oil pressure gauge.

Hi Mike, Since you have to take the speedometer out of the cluster for repair anyway, put the engine instrument cluster and the clock or clock/tach combo back into the cluster and reinstall in the car. That way you can still be driving with full engine instruments and you don't have to worry about plugging the oil pressure line. Kent Bergsma
