Works only on the 5 cylinder turbo engine from 1978 to 1985 (116, 123, 126 chassis). 300D 300TD 300CD 300SD. Does not work on some 1985 models with trap oxidizer (air cleaner mounted off the engine). If you own or have owned a 116, 123, or 126 with a 617 turbo diesel engine for any length of time you are probably very aware of the air cleaner shake and rattle problem (except 1985 models with trap oxidizer). Rubber mounts loosen up or tear and the mounting brackets seem to break way too often. With this kit and instructions I hope to help you eliminate or at least drastically curtain this common problem. After working on literally hundreds of these engines I have found that just replacing the bracket and the three rubber mounts is not the answer.
For a more permanent repair, you will need to reinforce the metal bracket by welding on a gusset, reduce the amount of air cleaner housing shake and use self-locking nuts throughout. Reducing the shake helps the rubber mounts last longer and using locking nuts keeps them from loosening up and elongating the mounting holes.
This kit includes the following, 4 correct rubber shock mounts (one to use as a spare) 8 elastic locking nuts 1 wing nut for air cleaner cover 1 pre-shaped metal reinforcement gusset (to weld on) 1 thick hose piece and attachment bolt 1 o-ring for the air cleaner oil drain tube Complete instructions
Please Note, This kit will not solve your problems if you have a rough running engine. If you want the air cleaner mounting system to hold up over time you need to have a smooth running diesel at idle. Please read my manual Diesel Performance Tuning and Repair to help you locate the reasons and the cures for excessive shake.
Here is what it looks like with the reinforcement washer welder to the bracket. This one has been on the the car a couple years. Note the rubber mount broke but the bracket did not!
