82 300d Leaking main fuel filter bolt

Submitted by golden.spiral1.618 on 14 March 2010 - 8:16pm.

Hi,

I have changed the fuel filter on an '82 300d per your instruction and with your kit (1 o-ring, 1 copper washer). It still leaks at the bolt head. Some people use a nylon washer instead of the copper washer with some success, but Mercedes updated the bolt with a 2 o-ring design in '83 and later. Does the 2 o-ring design work and do I have to replace the aluminum filter mount to use it or it is just a bolt upgrade?

Thanks, explorer

2 o-ring bolt design

Yes you are correct. The 2 o-ring design is more efficient. You need to replace both the bolt and the aluminum mount to make the upgrade. With the older style your aluminum mount may be deformed. In most cases you can replace with a good used older style housing to repair the leak....
