creamy WVO vs clear

Submitted by heb-arts on 16 May 2010 - 7:15am.

I'm in my 3rd year of running WVO via Kent's single tank system. My WVO source has been clear WVO. I recently located a 2nd source that uses creamy oil vs the clear. I picked up the first batch two weeks ago and even after settling over 1/2 of the cube remains opaque and clogs my bag filters.

Would appreciate some feedback from others using creamy WVO

Do not use!

Hi Fred -

Do not use!! It sounds like it is hydrogenated oil.

Partially Hydrogenated Oil

I have about 40, 5 gallon jugs of "Creamy partially hydrogenated" oil. They have settled for a long time. The bottom half is white semi-solid looking. The top half looks "normal", golden, fairly clear. Do you think the separated oil is ok to use or at least mix in with other wvo in small amounts.

I have done it before

When I get this type oil (usually by mistake) I put it aside and only run it in the summer. I have noticed that some types of hydrogenated oil reduce filter life. I had one batch like this that was plugging up the main filter every 1500 to 2000 miles. It does seem to be getting harder to get good oil - more demand. You may have to run with what you can get. Just use long settling - good filtration - and carry spare main filters with you in the trunk of your car.
