Okay, I may need direction or help I what I should order first to diagnose my problem.

I changed the fluid last night to examine is for burning or color. Looks okay.

I adjusted the transmission screw on top of the valve cover -- when I adjusted clockwise and the nylon threaded screw moved in, the transmission shifted smoother and sooner; when I adjusted the nylon screw counter clockwise out, the transmission seemed to shift harder and at greater RPM between shifts - more power though.

There seems to be fluid leaking from the rear boots that are attached to the differential. When the car shifts from 1st gear to 2nd gear, the wheels 'chirp' and there is hard banging from the rear; also, when I put the car in reverse, there is a delay before it engages.

The condition you describe could be a vacuum problem or a modulation pressure problem. It could either be an external or internal problem. It may even be related to how your engine is tuned. In other words, it could be any number of things. I have found poor diesel transmission shifting usually involves more than one problem.

I recommend you start with the manual. This will show you in detail how to troubleshoot shift problems. You will need a vacuum gauge and a pressure gauge to do it properly. Ordered your diagnostic kit for the transmission; changed filter and fluid, checked level;

Followed the instructions, adjusted the transmission, and, wow, very good results. With all the engine tune up steps, especially cleaning the alda, the car was responding and accelerating quicker.

After I adjusted the transmission properly, flares are gone and the transmission is responsive, and smooth.
