I installed Kent's Electric Fuel Boost Pump kit 3 years ago and it has been working great until recently. It's clicking away really fast. I pulled the bleed plug out of my filter and the pump is barely pumping the fuel/veggie oil. I disconnected the fuel line right before the lift pump and very little WVO is coming out of the fuel line. Did same thing right before I.P. and again the fuel is barely coming out of the fuel line. Yet the EFBP is pumping like crazy. Does the EFBP just need to be cleaned? Can I take the EFBP apart to clean it out or is it just worn out and time to replace it? Any advice is appreciated. Keith
Test the pump all by itself
You could have blockage in the tank. Make sure there is no internal screen inside the pump. Test the pump with it removed from the cars fuel system by inserting a short section of hose into a small fuel container and see how it pumps. If the screens are clean and it still won't pump then it is worn out.
Thanks Kent but I don't
Thanks Kent but I don't quite understand your answer. (My wife says I don't understand a lot of things!)
Can the EFBP be disassembled?
Does the EFBP have a internal screen that simply needs to be cleaned? I just replaced all my filters and they are clear & clean.
If it is designed to be disassembled, Do I unscrew the three bolts on the top of the EFBP or do I unloosen the large nut on the bottom?
I'm afraid to start taking this thing apart and not being able to reassemble it. I just want to make sure I know what I'm doing.
Thanks again for the advice.
Keith
Test pump operation before you take it apart
Test the pump operation by direct 12 volt power source first (as explained above). This will give you a bench mark to gauge the success of any repairs you make. Originally we sent these pumps out and told customers to remove the internal screen if they planned to run SVO. We found out that people were not taking the screen out and started doing in here in our shop on all pumps. Not sure if your pump has the screen inside or not. You remove the bottom big nut and the bottom bowl to access this screen. Clean out all crude and retry. As far as taking the top off if the pump won't run you have nothing to lose looking inside, but I do not have any replacement parts available nor instructions on how to repair it internally.
