Running badly means poor performance. It happens sooner or later to EVERY diesel owner. The word "performance" is often used to describe how well a diesel engine runs once started. From my many years of working professionally on Mercedes diesels I have learned fuel injectors are the single most neglected maintenance item. I believe there are a number of reasons for this. Partly it may be the mystery surrounding how injectors work and what needs to be done to service and repair them. Then there is the false notion that like the engine they will last forever. And finally, it can be very expensive to have a shop replace the fuel injectors. You may even have said to yourself, the engine seems to be running fine so why bother spending the money?

This is a must read for anyone who is currently running or seriously thinking about running his or her Mercedes diesel on straight vegetable oil (SVO). This is a followup to my introductory guide, Dine Out with Your Diesel. It contains a higher level of technical information on the problems and challenges of long term operations. If you do not have any knowledge of how your system works or what needs to be done to maintain it, then you are going to literally lose your power. The system will only be as reliable as YOU make it.

If your blower motor has been intermittent or some days it will not come on until you drive for a while, your motor brushes are most likely at the end of their life. Try this simple test. The next time you heater motor wil not come on try slaming the door. See if it comes on and you will know what you have to do to fix it. This is something you may just want to rebuild as a preventative measure.

How many times have we (and I am talking about myself here) done an oil change on our vehicle, looked at the odometer and said to ourselves, I will write the mileage down later. Most people have not had the option before of just replacing the heater motor only in their 201 chassis due to the difficulty of removing and replacing the fragile squirrel cage fans on both ends of the motor. The alternative has been a very expensive replacement Bosch unit with fans installed that lists for $430.00. Now Mercedessource offers you an alternative to the high priced replacement unit. This new motor call be installed in all 190E and 190D from 1984 to 1993.

Burned out glow plugs are becoming an increasing problem in the 60x. engines produced from the mid 1980's to the mid 1990's. This 60x. group in question includes the four cylinder (601) engine that came in the 1984-1986 190D 2.2, the five cylinder (602) engine that came in the 190D 2.5 and 300D 2.5 from 1986 to 1993, and the 6 cylinder (603) engine installed in the 124, 126, and 140 chassis 300D / TD (1987 only), 300SDL and 350SDL.

If you have been around Mercedes diesels for any length of time, you have either asked this question or have had to deal with trying to find the answer. When troubleshooting a no-start problem it is always best to check the simple things first before moving on to the more difficult repairs. This guide covers 116, 123, and 126 chassis diesels from 1978 to 1991.

This fuel tank and tank heat applications guide applies to all Mercedes 116, 123, 126, 201 and 124 chassis diesels from 1977 TO 1995 EXCEPT 300TD Station Wagons. When converting your Mercedes Diesel to WVO fuel, there are many things to think about and many choices to make. One of the most important, is deciding on what type of "fuel tank system" you should install. This can have a huge impact on your other components and how you install them. That is why I strongly encourage making all fuel tank related decisions before finalizing the final layout of any WVO conversion.

In a perfect world your diesel would not leak a drop of fluid. Unfortunately, with the age of your vehicle, it may not be economically possible to eliminate every leak. Some you may just have to live with. Let's face it. These older diesels are 20+ years old and that age takes it toll on gaskets, rubber seals, o-rings and rubber lines.

Since owners of these cars seem to want to keep driving them, then sooner or later they must deal with some fluid leaks. It has been said the most important thing about maintaining your Mercedes is fluids, fluids, and fluids. Let's make sure those fluids stay where they should. For all 201 chassis 190E and 190D built from 1984 to 1993. This repair guide will take you through the process of how to properly remove your heater blower motor and replace the motors two brushes. This is the most common reason for failure.
