61x Diesel Automatic Transmission Tuning Manual
Lets face it! Diesel automatic transmissions can be troublesome, particularly those models that use vacuum to control shifts. This is largely due to the fact that diesel engines don't produce vacuum naturally. It has to be artificially manufactured. This is what makes diesel transmission tuning difficult. The numerous vacuum and pressure controls that were added to make it shift properly can create all kinds of problems when they fail or get out of adjustment. The big challenge in writing the manual was to clearly explain how to get all these controls working in harmony for the transmission to operate at peak efficiency.

Sometimes the procedure works perfectly, and then other times it seems like you end up with endless air in your system that just wont come out. The information contained in this manual with eliminate some of the mystery and give you the knowledge and confidence to do the job right the first time. Item: MRM-61XFCSR
$19.50

Kent originally wrote this manual to go along with our 617 Turbo Diesel Front Crank Seal Replacement Kit as well as our 616 and 617 NON Turbo Crank Seal KitWe have found that many of you are having problems with your front crank bolt loosening up or bolts sheering off at the front engine pulleys. This is becoming more common as these old diesels age and is primarily due to excess vibration caused by a poorly tuned engine. This guide will not only show you how to replace the front seal, but it will also give you the information you need to check the torque on the front bolt. WARNING: IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE THIS, YOU MAY BE SORRY. Please see my TECH HELP tips and alerts.

Mercedes New Product Development

Specialty tool, kits and manuals currently in progress

Since 2011 we have released a number of new products and Kent is working on more this year.

1) First is a glow plug carbon reamer for the 1979 and older non turbo diesel engines that use the larger series style glow plugs. As far as we know this will be the first reamer of its kind available for these engines. Carbon reaming in the glow plug pre-chamber is not as critical as in the engines using the tighter fitting pencil glow plugs, BUT our research has shown that these older engines need is as well, especially high mileage engines that have had a lot of time to build up carbon over the years. The pictures below show just how much carbon we were able to pull out with Kent's new reamer from an old 240D head:

Mercedes DONT JUST LIVE WITH IT - FIX IT!

This is the time of year to get with it. From our experience here are the top repair issues that most Mercedes owners have learned to "live with". These problems occur and get worse over time. Many may not even realize how annoying the problem was until it gets fixed - and then WOW! They are exclaiming - Why didn't I do that sooner!!

DONT LIVE WITH THE PROBLEM ANY LONGER.   JUST FIX IT!

Mercedes Kent Introduces Image-by-Image instructions

A picture for every step with fewer words

Kent Introduces Image-by-Image instructions

I have known for years that many people would rather look at pictures than read text - especially when it comes to technical instructions. In the spring of 2010 I came up with a new format that I have chosen to call image-by-image instructions. This is a play on "step-by-step" since I include an image for every step. There is still text related to each image, but it has been reduced to the bare minimum. in some cases bullet phrases are used to make my point. This approach means lots of picture taking and more pages to print, but I believe you will appreciate the results.

I hope you enjoy this new format. Current repair kits being sold that include these new image-by-image instructions are:

Mercedes Why Does My Diesel Engine Run So Badly? by Kent Bergsma

Item: SRCLET-WDRB
$10.95
Run_Badly_S.jpg

Running badly means poor performance. It happens sooner or later to EVERY diesel owner. The word "performance" is often used to describe how well a diesel engine runs once started. The principles discussed will cover all Mercedes diesels from the mid 1950s to the mid 1990s. Throughout this manual I will use this word to discuss a number of common problems. How performance is rated can mean different things to different people. In the following pages I will relate diesel performance to the following four criteria:

• How much power does it produce?
• What kind of fuel economy does it deliver?
• How smooth does the engine run?
• How much does the engine smoke?

Mercedes Diesel Injector Cleaning, Overhaul and Testing Procedures Manual - by Kent Bergsma

Item: MRM-COMICTP
$19.50
Diesel fuel injector testing manual cover

Applies to all 110 115 116 123 126 201 124 140 diesels from 1961 to 1994. From my many years of working professionally on Mercedes diesels I have learned fuel injectors are the single most neglected maintenance item. I believe there are a number of reasons for this. Partly it may be the mystery surrounding how injectors work and what needs to be done to service and repair them. Then there is the false notion that like the engine they will last forever. And finally, it can be very expensive to have a shop replace the fuel injectors. You may even have said to yourself, the engine seems to be running fine so why bother spending the money?
