Running badly means poor performance. It happens sooner or later to EVERY diesel owner. The word "performance" is often used to describe how well a diesel engine runs once started. The principles discussed will cover all Mercedes diesels from the mid 1950s to the mid 1990s. Throughout this manual I will use this word to discuss a number of common problems. How performance is rated can mean different things to different people. In the following pages I will relate diesel performance to the following four criteria:
• How much power does it produce?
• What kind of fuel economy does it deliver?
• How smooth does the engine run?
• How much does the engine smoke?
We have recently been getting more requests for product catatogs. We decided to deliver. Our first product catalog specific to SVO kits and products is finished and ready to ship. This will outline all our different conversion kits as well as list individual upgrades you can make to an existing conversion. It will also show you individual components you can purchase if you want to build your own system.
The other buyers guides we are currently working on are Diesel Engine Performance Products Guide and Top Mercedes Weekender Projects (key jobs you can do at home on a weekend). Stay tuned for more to come.

From my many years of working professionally on Mercedes diesels I have learned fuel injectors are the single most neglected maintenance item. I believe there are a number of reasons for this. Partly it may be the mystery surrounding how injectors work and what needs to be done to service and repair them. Then there is the false notion that like the engine they will last forever. And finally, it can be very expensive to have a shop replace the fuel injectors. You may even have said to yourself, the engine seems to be running fine so why bother spending the money?
Have you ever wished you could get your hands on a manual that would answer all your diesel complaint questions? Are you tired of cruising around the internet posting your problems on different forums hoping that someone who really knows what they are talking about can give you the right answers?

Have you been looking for solutions to help troubleshoot and/or repair your diesel engine. Wish there were a quick way to find it? Here is a summary reference chart you may find helpful. The chart is divided into the following 6 sections. Each summarizes the most common problems you may face with your diesel.

Installing steel threaded spark plugs in aluminum heads is risky business. If you are not careful it is easy to damage the fragile aluminum threads. In a few cases I have seen spark plugs blow out of their holes while the engine is running. And does that ever make a loud racket! Heavy handed mechanics often cross thread the plugs during a tune-up and you wont even know it until you go to replace the plugs at some later date.
This is a must read for anyone who is currently running or seriously thinking about running his or her Mercedes diesel on straight vegetable oil (SVO). This is a followup to my introductory guide, Dine Out with Your Diesel. It contains a higher level of technical information on the problems and challenges of long term operations. It has been said that knowledge is power. This is really true when running on SVO / WVO. If you do not have any knowledge of how your system works or what needs to be done to maintain it, then you are going to literally lose your power. The system will only be as reliable as YOU make it.
Are you plagued with a diesel that wont turn off when you want it to? Has it been slowly taking more time to quit when you turn your key off? It is time to fix it before you have more problems! This troubleshooting guide is directly applicable to the following models: 1975 to 1976 115 chassis 300D. all 1977 to 1985 240D, 300D, 300TD, 300CD and 1978 to 1985 116 and 126 chassis 300SD (pictures and illustrations were taken from work on these cars. The instructions will also apply in principle to the later model 201 chassis 190D, 124 300D and TD, and 126 300SDL and 350SD to 1993.
This guide is written specifically for owners of 123 and 126 diesels up to 1985. There are some sections that apply to the 115 and 116 chassis but it is not specific to those models. This manual covers understanding how the vacuum system works, common symptoms of trouble, possible causes, and testing and repairing the problems. Deals mostly with issues from the firewall forward like testing the vacuum pump, repairing shutoff problems, finding leaks, etc.
How many times have we (and I am talking about myself here) done an oil change on our vehicle, looked at the odometer and said to ourselves, I will write the mileage down later. I know that I have even tried to memorize the mileage, only to discover a couple months down the road that I am asking myself, Was that 82 or 83 thousand miles?
Older Mercedes have a very effective emergency brake design which was virtually the same on all models from the late 1960's right up through the early 1990's. The actuating mechanisms are all mechanical and are controlled by a Y cable under the car. This cable is pulled by either a hand or foot operated lever.
If you have been around Mercedes diesels for any length of time, you have either asked this question or have had to deal with trying to find the answer. When troubleshooting a no-start problem it is always best to check the simple things first before moving on to the more difficult repairs. This guide covers 116, 123, and 126 chassis diesels from 1978 to 1991.
This manual is part of our new Advanced DIY Mechanic Series. It covers advanced procedures in simple terms with photos to illustrate every step. The format size is 8.5 x 7 inches. It is printed on 28 pound stock paper and is wire bound to allow it to stay open when on your workbench. The plastic protective cover will help to minimize grease and smudges when carrying it.
For all 108, 109, 114, 115, 107, 116, 123, 126, 201, and 124 chassis from 1965 to 1995. I wrote this repair guide to show you how to properly remove your instrument cluster and replace worn or failing components.
This manual is written specifically for the diesel owner who wishes to know more about his engine and to understand how to tune and adjust it for maximum performance. Even if you do not intend to do all the work yourself, you will gain valuable information that may save you hundreds of dollars in future repairs.

SKU: COM-GFTCRTThis is an illustrated guide of what I believe are the 75 most important items you should inspect, service or repair on any older 115, 116, 123 or 126 diesel Mercedes. Even though not specifically written for the 201 or 124 chassis many of the principles will apply to these newer chassis diesels.
This fuel tank and tank heat applications guide applies to all Mercedes 116, 123, 126, 201 and 124 chassis diesels from 1977 TO 1995 EXCEPT 300TD Station Wagons. When converting your Mercedes Diesel to WVO fuel, there are many things to think about and many choices to make. One of the most important, is deciding on what type of "fuel tank system" you should install. This can have a huge impact on your other components and how you install them. That is why I strongly encourage making all fuel tank related decisions before finalizing the final layout of any WVO conversion.
In a perfect world your diesel would not leak a drop of fluid. Unfortunately, with the age of your vehicle, it may not be economically possible to eliminate every leak. Some you may just have to live with. Let's face it. These older diesels are 20+ years old and that age takes it toll on gaskets, rubber seals, o-rings and rubber lines.
Since owners of these cars seem to want to keep driving them, then sooner or later they must deal with some fluid leaks. It has been said the most important thing about maintaining your Mercedes is fluids, fluids, and fluids. Let's make sure those fluids stay where they should. It is 54 pages in length has over 70 high quality reference images.
For all 123 chassis cars made from 1977 to 1985 and all 116 chassis sedans built from 1973 to 1980. This repair guide will take you through the process of how to properly remove your heater blower motor and replace the motors two brushes. This is the most common reason for failure. If your blower motor has been intermittent or some days it wont come on until you drive for a while your motor brushes are most likely at the end of their life. This is something you may just want to replace as a preventative measure. 20 year old heater motor brushes are very prone failing at any time. If it has not failed yet it most likely will sometime soon.
Fits all chassis: 107, 114, 115, 116, 123, 126, 201 and 124. This repair manual is written for all Mercedes models from the early 1970s up to the later 1980s. Principles may apply to older pre 1970 chassis as well but most instructions and illustrations are written for the chassis numbers listed above. Is your drivers seat starting to sag more than it use to? Are you finding it is just not comfortable any more on long trips? Maybe it tips to one side and you are constantly trying to compensate your weight to other side. This manual will show you how you can remove and repair the seat yourself using original Mercedes used parts.
Over the past six years we have received hundreds of emails asking us which is the best Mercedes diesel to buy and what should one be looking for when going on the hunt. In an effort to reduce the number of email replies, I began writing this book about three years ago.
Applies to all Mercedes: Pre 1960, 190SL, 110, 111, 112, 113, 114, 115, 108, 109, 107, 116, 123, 126, 201, and 124 chassis. I have been trying to find a lasting solution to rust problems on old cars ever since 1962. That was when I purchased a 1934 Ford Sedan and brought it home to fix up and drive. I was only 15 at the time, but I certainly did not find the rust holes very attractive in the lower front and rear quarter panels.
