Biodiesel / WVO Product Buyers Guide

Whether you currently are or are consider running your Mercedes diesel on bio fuel we have a number of products that can help lower cost and reduce maintenance troubles and frustration. Although they both come from vegetable oil, biodiesel and straight vegetable oil (SVO) are not the same thing. Neither fuel is perfect and each presents its own distinct challenges.

At one time we published a catalog on these products, but recently decided it would be better to put the entire catalog on line.  This allows you the chance to view all our products immediately and allows us to easily keep the catalog up to date. IMPORTANT NOTE:  There are a few things we have learned from our own experience running on bio fuel over the past five years. Some of these are not even addressed by most suppliers of conversion kits while others are often misrepresented or misunderstood on forums. Here are three things we urge you to be aware of: 1. Do not believe every thing you read on forums.  Just because someone states he has knowledge about the best way to do something that does not mean you should follow his advice. (example:  Recommendations that you should set your injection release pressures higher when running on SVO - I say not a good idea!). 2. Do not run bio fuels in your diesel unless you drive the car often. Leaving biodiesel or SVO idle in your injection pump and injections for long periods of time can cause severe corrosion to critical steel parts. 3.  Plan to do yearly fuel injector and glow plug maintenance if you run SVO or B-80 to B-100 biodiesel. Injector and pre-chamber coking is an issue you will have to deal with inspite of what other "experts" might tell you.  More on this is covered in my manuals.

Inspite of a lot of confusing and contradictory information online and inspite of what I consider minimal risks to your engine, running your diesel on bio fuel can be a rewarding experience. I consider the older Mercedes diesel engine with pre-chamber combustion to be the best passenger car engine ever built for this purpose.

I like to use plastic inline filters to monitor the flow and quality of the fuel (yes you can even check for air in the system). 

 

 

 Hand Bulb Air Bleed Pump for SVO WVO Fuel Filter

To bleed the system fast you need something that can PUSH the heavy fuel through the filter instead. Ideally, that should be an electric boost pump mounted at the rear of the car, but if you are not ready to spring for such a pump, a good inexpensive alternative is to use a rubber bulb hand pump.
