Electrical and wiper problems 1993 300D

I have a 1993 300D 240 turbo with a few issues I need help resolving. The windshield wiper doesn't work. I have attempted to remove the shroud below the windshield and can't or haven't gained access to the motor. Help I also have an electrical problem with the drivers headlight. I have high beam but no low. I have switched the bulbs with the passenger side and bulb is fine, fuse is fine. What's the next step? Don

Hi Don, Yes it can be a little tricky to get the wiper motor assembly out especially if you have not done it before. I have written a manual on how to do just that (included in my heater motor repair manual). You must get the wiper assembly out to get to the heater blower motor! CLICK HERE to view this manual.

As far as your low beam I would take a closer look at the fuse. I have been fooled myself a few times on a fuse that looks good. Do you have the aluminum fuses or the newly upgraded copper and brass fuses installed. (Those old style aluminum fuses tend to corrode on the tips and they should all be changed out) Have you actually replaced the fuse? Sometimes they can get a fine line crack in them or the tips can get burned. Let me know what you find out and we can go from there. For our fuse upgrade kit CLICK HERE.

I found the problem with the windshield wiper. The motor's brushes are burned and charded. The mounting bracket for the brush assembly has desenigrated and is cannot be repaired. The gear ring for the wiper arm has a crack from no lubrication and will need to be replaced. I need a new or good used windshield wiper motor and gear ring to fix the problem. I checked the power at the plug and all pins show power when turning the wiper switch on the steering column. Where can I get a windshield wiper motor and gear ring? The headlight low beam pin came loose in the housing on the headlight assembly. I used needle nose and pushed the pin in and all lights are working as they should be. How do the fog lights work on this model? I couldn't find a switch. Help? Thanks, Don

Good work!

Congratulations on finding your problems. As far as fixing the wiper I would recommend you go after a complete used wiper assembly unit from a reputable recycler. You can not buy just the fiber gear and new OEM parts are outrageously expensive. When you install the replacement unit be sure and clean and lubricate the gear as well as the piston output shaft.

If you don't have an owners handbook for your 300D I would call Mercedes Benz and purchase a copy. It will give you a complete breakdown of all controls and switches.
