Fuel Tank Filter Screen Alert

Fuel tank filter screen

If you have been experiencing hard starts and poor power with your 1986 and older Mercedes Diesel you may have a plugged filter screen in your fuel tank. Yes that is right - you do have another filter back there. If you have had all your filters recently replaced and are still experiencing performance problems, be sure to inspect this filter or have your mechanic do it.

The screen on the 123 116 and 126 chassis cars is located on the passenger side of the car directly above the right rear axle. You will need to drain your fuel tank before removing this screen so be sure and run your tank near dry before beginning the job. It is best to use a big 1 and 13/16 inch socket (46 mm) to remove the filter from the tank. Most screens are made of plastic so you can just clean and reuse.

While you are working on the screen you may also want to replace the fuel lines back at the tank. If they are old and braided and appear a little damp then this is a must. We have a fuel line kit available that you can order from this website. If you need a new fuel tank screen please call us.
