I need to relocate my battery to the trunk of my 1975 240D so I can install the Electric Fuel Boost Heater close to the injection pump.
I'm trying to install the Electric Fuel Boost Heater. I went through a lot of work making mounting brackets and a plate but in a nutshell it doesn't work. It vibrates too much, and I'm afraid the vibration will danmage the thermostat of the EFBH. I made the mistake of relocating my orginal fuel filter and mounting the EFBH to the fuel filter mount. I think I'm better off to relocate my battery so the EFBH will be attached to the car body and not the engine.
My questions are:
1)Where is the best place to drill a hole in the trunk for the battery cables?
2)Where is the best place to drill the two holes in the trunk to secure the battery container so that I can strap it down?
3) What else do I need to consider before I tackle this job so I can tackle my orginal job?
Any help is appreciated,
Keith
Best Location
With the fuel tank located under the trunk floor your best location is over on the left side above the muffler. You can drop the muffler down to get access to any bolts you will need to secure the battery box. Cables can enter the trunk toward the front of that rear muffler. Use a good rubber grommet to prevent cable chaffing and use large quality battery cables to prevent voltage drop (type they use in motor homes).
Battery cable gauge size
Looking at battery cables, I see they come in gauge sizes 2, 4 & 6. Which size is most appropriate for my project?
Thanks,
Keith
Bigger is better
The larger diameter the wire the less voltage drop to the starter. I consider 6 too small for that length. So go with 4 or 2. If you live in a very cold climate I would go for 2.
