Hard to Remove Tie Rod Ball Joints

It may take a special tool

Sometimes a pickle fork is just not enough to remove old stubborn ball joints. Even trying to use a 2 lb. hammer can jar your teeth when hammering the end of a pickle fork. Then there are times that you just can not get a good angle using the fork.

When you find yourself in this situation there is another less common ball joint removal tool that can really help.  It is a press tool that uses a long threaded bolt to slowly spread the jaws to pry the joint loose under pressure.  This tool is available at many tool stores and automotive parts houses. If you don't want to purchase one you might try your local tool rental store.
