This is about window regulators, specifically on my 1980 300SD (W116). The drivers side window regulator is broken, and MercedesSource has a new replacement for it, but no instructions available with the new part.
After examining the broken regulator, I believe that a lack of grease (or lubricant) on the regulator slides contributed to the failure. Further, my other windows are moving slow or binding up, and I suspect that lack of lube is responsible for that slowness as well.
Trouble is, I don't know what grease to use on the regulator mechanism. Grease isn't just grease. It's formulated to work at a certain temperature, under specific conditions, and I'd bet the grease on a window regulator is altogether different than wheel bearing grease, for instance.
My car is 27 years old, and the window grease has dried up. I guess that's how long it lasts...a long time but not forever.
What kind of grease is it? Can I get it at MercedesSource, or at a local parts house?
Recommendations, anyone? ...and thank you in advance.

A couple recommendations
With window mechs the important thing is to find a grease that repels water over a long period of time and will not deteriorate. It is the rain water that gets into the door that raises havoc. I use black moly grease. Some types of marine grease also work well. Some have used the higher priced synthetic grease with good results. There is no one correct grease in my humble opinion.
Kent Bergsma
Regulator Grease
I pretty much agree with Kent but I lean toward the synthetic grease. Get a cartridge and accept the price. it took some time to open up the door so do the job right while you are in there.
