Seat not moving & window motor whirring

Just started digging into my brand new 1984 300SD to fix a few essential items; I was told the driver's side seat worked, just needed a new switch. So I ordered a new (used) seat switch and hooked it up and still no action. Any advice on where to go next? Also was attempting to fix my driver's side window... which is turning out to be quite a challenge. The motor works, however, the big drive gear just spins on there. It looks like it needs to be aligned with a half moon shaped gear to activate the regulator but I haven't read anything about that type of fix for the Merz windows and didn't want to force it too much before reading more. Has anyone attempted this type of fix?
