Testing Diesel Tranny Shifting Valve

Submitted by BioDrew on 10 April 2008 - 9:41pm.

Can anyone shed light on how to properly test a 617 Turbo Diesel Transmission Vacuum Shifting Valve? (See MercedesSource item BCM-COMTVSA for reference.) I have a used one that looks in good shape but is untested - so of course I want to check if it is actually in good shape before throwing it in. Thanks!

Aw come on, someone must know what to do... It can't be that complicated... Ha ha!

I already have a a vacuum test pump ready to go, just have to know how to test the Shifting Valve when it's out of the car - IF it can be tested out of the car? And target numbers for the vacuum... Info like that...

Anyone? Thanks!!!

This unit is best tested on the vehicle. If you are going to test it on a bench you will need an electric vacuum pump and another vacuum guage. This procedure is a little more complicated than can be spelled out in a quick forum post. The information is included in my upcoming Transmission manual. Since you are a Silver Star Club member I will send you an excerpt from the manual directly later this week.
