Diagnosing, Adjusting and Fine Tuning Mercedes Automatic Transmissions

For me 2010 is going to be the year of the transmission. It is hard to believe I have been working on a transmission repair manual for the past 6 years I Just the other day I was looking at an email I wrote to a customer in 2006 telling him the transmission manual should be out by the end of that year! Each year we receive an ever increasing number of requests for transmission help. Neither these transmissions nor myself are getting any younger so I decided I had better get my act together and deliver on my promise.

61x Diesel Automatic Transmission Modulating Pressure Test Kit

1969 to 1985 220D 240D 300D 300CD 300TD 300SD - Introductory Special

Item: TRS-COMDTMTK
$48.75
61x Diesel Automatic Transmission Modulating Pressure Test Kit

Troubleshooting an annoying shift problem must first start with the vacuum modulator. This vacuum control unit mounted on the side of the transmission must be tested and adjusted to specs BEFORE you move on to other adjustments. Unfortunately this can not be done by guess or by feel. There is a pressure port on the side of the transmission that you must tap into and connect to a pressure gauge. The engine must then be started and the modulator adjusted to a set pressure for that specific transmission. It is not a difficult job with the proper test tools and information, and can be done in less than an hour. Too much pressure and abrupt shifts will occur. Too little pressure and you may experience slipping or flaring during shifts. My kit with help you do all the above with ease.

Gas Engine C.I.S. Fuel Injector Testing Kit - Introductory Special

Works on all CIS V/8, 6 Cylinder, and 4 Cylinder gas engine injectors from 1977 TO 1993

Item: GEG-COMCISTK
$175.00

Welcome to the first inexpensive CIS fuel injector tester for the home mechanic. This bench mount tester will allow you to check the release pressure and spray pattern of your injectors. It will not accurately measure quantity of fuel delivered nor the release balance between the injectors as do the big commercial test units. With a little practice you can get a "feel" for balance by quickly testing all injectors one right after another and analyzing spray patterns. CIS injectors are spraying all the time in your engine. There is no way you can get this hand pump to spray continuously, but by pumping rapidly and can get a fairly good idea just how well each injector is atomizing the fuel.

Fixing Underbody Rust Permanently Without Welding

In the 45 plus years that I have been working on old cars I have tried every product on the market that promises to fix rust. Almost all of them do not live up to their promises nor do they product permanent lasting repairs. Even welding does not last if the weld line can not be treated properly on the back side of the weld.

Nothing works like Miracle Paint. Their new heavy duty (thicker formula) stands above the competition and is ideal for making the types or repairs you see in the picture below. To learn more about this amazing product and to see how I am using it to repair my 1978 6.9 CLICK HERE to read the full story.

123 126 Gasoline Models Genuine Steering Lock Assembly with Switch - ON SALE!

Fits gasoline 6 and 8 cylinder 1977 to 1991 - models listed in description ONLY.

Item: INT-COM126ISLA
$158.50

This is the part you will need when your ignition key continues to stick even after installing a new tumbler assembly. In over 70 percent of the cases involving a severely sticking key, I have found you need to replace both the tumbler AND the steering lock if you hope to have a lasting repair. They tend to wear each other out if the problem is not corrected early on. In cases where the key just begins to stick slightly while turning, you can sometimes get by only having to replace the tumbler assembly.

Fits all the following models listed below from 1977 to 1991

Late 123 and Early 126 Diesel COMPLETE Ignition Lock and Switch Assembly with new Tumbler - includes FREE Manual!

Fits 240D (1981 to 1983 ONLY) and 300D 300CD 300TD 300SD 300SDL from 1982 to 1987 (except 124 chassis).

Item: ELT-COMCLILA
$199.95
If your key gets stuck or tumbler fails will have to drill out your ignition lock to even move your car. When this happens you are better off buying a complete new assembly. You won't even be able to get tumbler or the black cover cap off your old assembly.

We make it easy for you by providing a new assembly that Kent assembles in his shop before shipping. This includes installing a new tumbler assembly and black cover cap. A new ignition switch is included but you will have to use the three screws from your old lock to secure the new electrical switch. A new vacuum cut-off switch is also included and installed.

Item: TRM-COMSTCT
$14.95

There could be rust growing out of the holes on the back side of the strips (do not let this go - see my Miracle Rust Cure products). Or you may have one or more loose or damaged side strips. The biggest problem in removing these strips is that the plastic snap clips often come off with the strip hold down pins.

Rust Repair for the 6.9 - Lets Make it Permanent

Follow along as I take you through the products and procedures I will use to repair the rust on my 6.9. I have been working on rusty old cars since I bought my first Model A Ford when I was 13 years old. I have tried every product imaginable. Very few live up to their claims to make it go away and not come back. Even welding in new metal is not a guarantee that the rust will not come back. You should see some of the dozens of examples where I have seen the weld seams rust from the inside out because they were not properly coated and protected from moisture on the blind side! And NOTHING rusts faster than an oxidized weld seem. I have come to believe that unless you are restoring a valuable collector car, one should stay away from sheet metal weld replacement.
