Flooring the accelerator pedal does not engage the kickdown switch on the automatic transmission. The pedal reaches its stop before the rod under the pedal can depress the switch. I tested the switch and it is good. Can I adjust the control pressure rod to allow more accelerator movement without damaging the transmission or throwing it out of adjustment? Is this adjustment easy to do?
Which rod?
Pressure control rod? Not sure exactly what you mean. Are you talking about adjusting the bowden cable that goes down to the right side of the transmission. If so, what happens to throttle travel with you remove the end of that cable?
1985 300D trans. kickdown switch not engaging
Removing the end of the bowden cable allows the accelerator pedal to move down to engage the kickdown switch.
Is the bowden free play adjusted properly?
Start by adjusting the bowden cable. This is explained in my manual "Diesel Performance Tuning and Repair." If the pedal will still not go down all the way then you will need to adjust your linkage. To do that properly you will need the factory manual - if not paper manual then the CD.
