Heat shrink tubing is very handing to have if you are doing any wire connections or splicing. This tubing can go over the splice or solder joint and when heat is applied from a heat gun it will shrink right down tight to the joint and protect it from shorts and corrosion.

If you are looking for an inexpensive way to test the electrical circuits on your Mercedes here is a good option. This tester reads both AC and DC voltage, DC current, resistance, and transistor, diode and battery test. Features automatic zero adjust, overange indication, and low battery indicator. Most people have not had the option before of just replacing the heater motor only in their 124 chassis due to the difficulty of removing and replacing the fragile squirrel cage fans on both ends of the motor. The alternative has been a very expensive replacement Bosch unit with fans installed that lists for $298.00. For all 108, 109, 114, 115, 107, 116, 123, 126, 201, and 124 chassis from 1965 to 1995. I wrote this repair guide to show you how to properly remove your instrument cluster and replace worn or failing components.

From the improvements (sometimes dramatic) I have seen first hand and heard second hand (from our customers, I can confidently say this is the No.1 performance upgrade for an older Mercedes diesel. Increasing fuel pressure can increase both powrer and MPG. One of the common reasons for a diesel to produce excess smoke and deliver poor fuel economy is low fuel pressure/flow to the injection pump. This can of course be caused by dirty fuel filters but it can also be caused by a worn mechanical lift pump as well as worn components inside the injection pump itself. When fuel pressure is low it can actually delay the release timing of your fuel injectors - thus causing incomplete fuel burn - leading to excess smoke and poor mileage.
